Here in La Junta, Associated Charities provides food, shelter, and support to families in need. The church gives its financial support, as well as monthly and special donations of nonperishable food.
The Deacon's Fund
The Deacon’s Fund is a financial resource provided to families and individuals directly in our community. Donations are accepted year round and administered by a church volunteer and the pastor.
Adult Mission Trips
Our church sends missionaries throughout the country and the globe on short term mission projects.
In June of 2018 Hayden Bickel and Bethany Bender were sponsored to participate in an adult mission trip to El Porvenir, La Paz, El Salvador with Living Water International to drill a water well.
Our Compassion and Social Justice Team sent an adult mission trip to Hoonah, Alaska July 30th through August 8th, 2015. The group roofed the manse and garage and did some general cleanup.Photo below is of the Alaska Mission Trip to Hoonah in 2014.
During November and December, church members are matched anonymously with local children whose parents are currently incarcerated. The gifts are delivered by church members to the homes of the children’s caregivers, as an expression of God’s love and generosity.
Operation Christmas Child
Along with many local congregations, we support Operation Christmas Child by assembling shoe boxes of items for children around the world. Our members have also participated in the assembling of the boxes at the regional center in Denver. We are happy to report we were able to fill 195 boxes this year thanks to the generous support of the congregation.
Support Ministries in our town
We collect caps & mittens & sweats for kids at La Junta Primary School and Child Development Services. The basket is in the entryway and you can add to our collection.
Our Compassion team and other volunteers from our church and community support Associated Charities, Health4Haiti and other needs within our community and world.
Pueblo Soup Kitchen
The Compassion and Social Justice team is organizing monthly trips to serve at the Pueblo Soup Kitchen. They are currently volunteering on the 4th Wednesday of each month. If you are interested in participating, please contact Jeanne Brittain.
Global and National Ministries
We support the missions nationally and globally through our Designated Offerings. These include the One Great Hour of Sharing offering taken on Easter Sunday, the Peacemaking Offering in October, and the Hunger Offering on Maundy Thursday. The Christmas Joy offering supports our racial/ethnic educational institutions and an emergency relief fund for church workers.
Mission Partners are invited to speak at the church and share the impact of our giving. In 2004, Desiree Hodgson shared with us about her ministry in Eastern Asia, and in 2005, we heard from Chad Parmenter of La Puente, in Alamosa, CO. Virginia Gartrell, from the Bethel Children's Home in Brazil talked to our congregation in 2006. During October 2009 Pix Mahler, a mission worker in Haiti, spent several days in La Junta sharing info on what the Presbyterian Church is doing in partnership with other denominations in Haiti. Dr. Jim Smith, a surgeon from Pueblo, shared his experience in Haiti with our congregation.
