5 Things to Know This Week @ First Pres

1 How firm a foundation

Jesus is our foundation even in—especially in—trying times. We celebrate the gift of durable faith in worship on Sunday, as we welcome the Rev. David Freehling as our preacher and co-officiant with Pastor MJ at the Lord’s Table. The Chancel Choir will sing, “In Communion with Me,” and we’ll hear a faith testimony. If your faith could use some encouragement right now, you won’t want to miss it.

2 Got skills?

Are you handy around the house? Could you put your skills to work around the church on an “as needed” basis? Please let the Church Office know by responding to this e-mail or giving us a call at 384-2852.

3 Summer camp update

We have 7 campers headed to Ponderosa Camp this summer, where the theme is “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” Camp is open to current 3rd through 8th graders. If interested, find Arah Minck as soon as you can, as registration closes May 31.

4 Congregational meeting in June

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 23, when we gather for our next huge step in fulfilling the Healthy Church prescriptions we adopted last October during our consultation with Paul Borden. On that day, we’ll ask the congregation to vote to approve new by-laws, elect new elders, welcome volunteer staff, receive a new Guiding Principles document, and celebrate our 2019 faith goals.

5 A growing church

How do we measure growth in a church? Good question! Is it just about worship attendance? No, although our worship attendance has risen 8% since this time last year. The more important markers are markers of faith: Are new believers coming to Christ? Are new leaders being called into service? Are we seeing a renewed desire for prayer? Are we faithfully serving our neighbors next door and around the world? By all of these measures, too, we are growing, not by leaps and bounds, but slowly and steadily. We give thanks to Jesus for blessing us so richly!
