5 Things to Know This Week @ First Pres

1 It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Mr. Incredible Faith!

And you’ll meet him when Friday Bible School (aka FBS) kicks off on Friday, September 7. We know it’s a school day for La Junta students (the only one all year—go figure!), but we’ll welcome kids from the other districts and see the LJ kids in October. Please go to the website First Church FBS or Facebook page (Friday Bible School - First Church of La Junta) for more information and registration links.

2 Life on the Frontline

Your frontline is the place where you spend your time outside the church, wherever God has placed you to make a difference, and your frontline will be the focus of our worship series beginning September 9. This series will empower us to make a difference, wherever we are, on whatever frontline we find ourselves. Also on September 9, we’ll welcome the Chancel Choir back to worship and meet some members of our new Confirmation Class.

3 Your Very Best Friend

In September, kids will meet their friend Jesus and learn to be better friends during our God’s House. Through September and early October, God’s House will happen during worship following the Children’s Message and finish up just a few minutes (or so) after worship at 10:40 a.m.

Note: Thanks to all the wonderful people who have volunteered to teach a session. We’re still looking for two more teachers, specifically for younger kids on September 16 and September 23.

4 Joy Still

There is always still joy in the Lord, through good times and tough times, and we’ll celebrate the last Sunday of summer this Labor Day weekend by gathering around the Lord’s table for communion. If you’re in town, please join us for this simple, shorter-than-usual praise service.

5 Peas and cracker s Associated Charities is very much in need of saltine crackers and canned peas. If you can help with these items—or any other non-perishable foods—your gifts will be gratefully received. Bring your donations to church and leave them in the bottom bins of our Donation Center in the church foyer.

Finally, a thanks…

As we’ve learned from King David in 1 Chronicles 29, it’s as we rejoice in what the Lord is doing that we’re led to give, because we want that rejoicing to continue. And your giving this year has indeed been an expression and a cause for rejoicing. Our Finance Team is happy to report that income is exceeding our best projections for the year. Thanks be to God and all of you.
