Summer Missions

A highlight of the year for our high school students is the summer mission trip.

Our 2018 Youth Mission Trip was to the San Luis Valley this summer to partner with the Pioneer United Church in Del Norte and Beaver Creek Camp in South Fork July 23-27, 2018.

For the 2017 Mission Trip 11 youth and 3 adults participated in helping with soup kitchens and other needs in Los Angeles, California, July 9th through July 14th.

The 2016 Mission Trip was at the Vance cabin in Cuchara June 26 through June 30th. The participants worked on the area around the cabin that the Vance's are rebuilding after a fire in 2013. Our congregation utilized the Vance cabin for many church activities in the past so the youth were excited to give back by assisting in cleaning up.

The 2015 mission trip found our youth at Fort Defiance on the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona. The trip took place Sunday, July 12 through Saturday, July 18th, and included a trip to the Grand Canyon. The youth led Bible lessons, games, reading time or crafts with community children and served through simple work projects such as yard work, painting or cleaning.

The 2014 mission trip was to Minneapolis, Minnesota from June 29 through July 4. The group had the opportunity to serve, but also to learn more about the issues facing those they meet during the week. They worked with a variety of organizations that were actively seeking the good of Minneapolis, including summer kids programs, senior citizen centers, and some great shelters and food banks that are making a positive impact in the community. They also had the chance to see the local art at the Sculpture Garden, visit some beautiful urban parks and see some breathtaking waterfalls.

The 2013 mission trip to New Orleans, Louisiana, was June 15-22. Nine brave youth and two sponsors took the trip this summer and found God's presence in all that they did. Parents thank you for supporting your kids in this great adventure!

In past years, youth and their adult mentorshave traveled to Dallas, TX, Albuquerque, NM, and the Osage Reservation in Oklahoma. In 2007, a group traveled to the Dominican Republic for a 10 day experience with Ministries in Action. Our mission team traveled to Arkansas in July of 2009 to work with the Youth Works organization again and had an awesome experience. In 2010 the youth traveled to St. Louis to help people in the inner city area and will work with youth from other states through the YouthWorks organization. In 2011 the youth traveled to Ft. Collins, Colorado, to participate in Group Works, "Week of Hope" camps in Ft. Collins where they spent three special days working with mentally and physically handicapped youth and adults at several sites.
